Background

The National Marine Aquarium is Europe's deepest and Britain's largest aquarium. The huge tanks contain over 4000 animals from 400 species including sharks, turtles and sea horses, which are displayed in realistic habitats from local shorelines to coral reefs.

Project Brief

To enhance the aquariums online brand and presence through the delivery of a visually engaging and interactive website.
To promote the different aspects of the aquarium, including attracting tourists, encouraging educational visits from schools and colleges and promoting the aquarium as an excellent conference / event venue.
To develop an integrated online booking system, enabling visitors to purchase tickets securely online and provide management reports on demand.
To provide a comprehensive, robust and secure content management solution allowing the website to be edited internally, without reliance on a third party.

The Outcome

The new National Marine Aquarium website was completed and launched early 2008 and was viewed by 15,000 people within the first month. Feedback from visitors has been extremely positive, with more than 70% of users adding the website to their 'favourites' suggesting an intention to re-visit the site on a regular basis.

The online marketing campaign has resulted in top positions being achieved on Google across more than 500 different key phrases, covering tourism, marine research, educational and event-based search phrases. Despite the high volumes of visitors accessing the website, our robust and stable hosting solution has resulted in no 'down-time' with the site remaining fast to load even during peak times.

The content management system has been welcomed by staff who are now able to edit and update the contents of the website in-house via an intuitive, functional and stable system.
