Originally built in the 1300s, Powderham Castle has belonged to the Courtenay family ever since and opened to the public in 1957.
With 3500 acres of land, containing 4 farms, woodland, 33 houses and an expanse of foreshore it’s an impressive estate and offers an excellent day out for all ages.
The 19th Earl and Countess of Devon, the current occupants, have recently updated the tours available at the castle in order to launch a fresh telling of the powerful Powderham story, and as part of this they wanted to update the website to reflect this; that’s where we came in.
It was also important to allow visitors to get a real feel for the castle and grounds before visiting, and to be able to check locations whilst on-site; to facilitate this we introduced an interactive map to highlight key areas in the grounds and give additional information about them. Again, this was optimised for all screen sizes so that it could be accessed on the fly as well as via desktop with maximum convenience.
As well as tours and walks, Powderham also provides boat moorings on the River Exe, and as such a powerful CMS was important to allow them to manage both bookings and renewals to keep track of which boats were permitted to moor at any time. Using our CMS platform we were able to build a custom module to allow them to control this, adding bespoke fields and filtering to ensure that it worked exactly as the team needed it to.
"Website Vision recently created a new website for us. This process was really smooth, with helpful staff who clearly know their stuff and reply to any problems or queries promptly and professionally.
Our new website looks amazing, is easy to navigate and edit and the team are always wonderfully helpful."
