The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway

Stretched over the North Devon countryside, the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway offers a unique train ride that providing a fantastic experience for families and train enthusiasts alike.

We have worked alongside them, bringing new life to their website and working closely with our dedicated online-ticketing team to provide a full 360 service for their customers.

All Aboard

The L&B team wanted to ensure that they had full input from the start of the project, giving flexibility to members of the volunteer team to encapsulate the ethos that the customers will experience whilst at the Railway. We needed to ensure the website was incorporating the traditional elements of their current site, providing pages on the locomotives and carriages and details on the Trust surrounding the railway, as well as an easily editable News and Gallery section so they could provide enthusiasts with regular updates. The flexibility of having a bespoke CMS platform meant we were able to design our web pages to meet the criteria required by the client without sacrificing usability or convenience.

The Customer Journey

Essential features included providing a clear calendar system, and easy to reach train timetables and updates. As the Railway was also making use of DigiTickets functionality we were able to provide an integrated calendar module on the main home page. This allowed us to sync the data from their ticketing page and pull through events and availability, making it easier to see what’s on each day before committing to buying tickets. Having this module in place promotes a slick and easy booking journey for customers.

With the railway positioning itself as a perfect activity for both tourists and enthusiasts, providing up-to-date information for the location was a requirement to really show the area’s potential for those traveling from afar. Our designers implemented a simple yet effective ‘Visitor Information’ section on the home page, offering information relating to everything from local stays and walks, right through to whether 4 legged friends are able to make the journey, along with other aspects of the local amenities.

Supporting the Railway

With the Railway being run solely around the dedication of its volunteers, from the café right through to the drivers, having a flexible and easily editable CMS platform along with informative training played a large factor in making the switch. The L&B members take great pride in keeping their news section up to date, as well as managing their memberships and fundraising. Using our CMS meant that each member who required access could have their own logins to create regular updates to the site. Each member can have customised credentials to grant access to the relevant sections of the CMS, ensuring that the site is efficiently maintained at all times.
